Proposed Changes to Waterfowl Hunting for 2020

TPWD will be taking public comment on the following proposed changes to 2020-2021 Statewide Waterfowl Hunting, with input to be considered before any action by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission at its March 26 public hearing:

• Establish seasons and bag limits for the take of migratory game birds for 2020-21
• Decrease the daily bag limit for scaup from three to one in all zones
• Decrease the daily bag limit for light goose daily bag limit from twenty to ten during the regular season in both zones
• Shift goose seasons (and light goose conservation season) in the Western Zone one week later than in previous years
• Shift snipe hunting season dates two weeks later than in previous years

The public is encouraged to provide comment on the proposed regulation changes.

Fishing Report from TPWD (May 22)

GOOD. Water slightly stained; 75 degrees; 0.19 feet above pool. Water level still above normal pool, with eleven flood gates open and still more water coming down from up north. Bass are good in 1-20 feet of water hitting your favorite way to fish. There was a big bass tournament this past weekend and there was four bass over 10 pounds caught. Shallow fish coming on spinnerbaits and chatterbaits and little top water baits for the first couple of hours in the morning. Then you can pick up a shallow running crankbait and Texas rig and fish from 8-12 feet. The next depth is from 14-20 feet, these fish coming on big crankbaits and Carolina rigs. The crappie fishing is just fair due to the current running in the lake. There are some crappie shallow, around docks, but most are running from 12-18 feet. Report by Stephen Johnston, Johnston Fishing.
