Louisiana Claims Team Title In B.A.S.S. Nation Regional Bass Championship on Toledo Bend

The Bayou State squad, which is composed of 10 boaters and 10 nonboaters, caught 135 bass over two days for a cumulative weight of 379 pounds, 2 ounces. Second place Team Arkansas finished second overall with 135 bass for 367-13.

Louisiana B.A.S.S. Nation Pesident, Kevin Gaubert was reported as saying when you get to this level, it’s all the top anglers in your state. You come here and do your best, put your time in and hope everything works out in your favor.

Next up is the individual competition in the Central Regional. Nine Louisiana anglers will move to the next round, which includes the top three boaters and nonboaters from each state, as well as the leading 38 anglers on the money line.

In all, 62 boats with 124 anglers will fish Friday for individual state honors, cash prizes and a chance to represent their team in the B.A.S.S. Nation Championship to be held later this year on an undisclosed date and fishery.

Complere results for all teams and anglers can be found at www.bassresource.com.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 24)

GOOD. Water slightly stained; 75 degrees; 0.41 feet below pool. Water levels continue to be high after the recent rains. Fishing will improve when the lake stabilizes. Bass are fair with good numbers of fish being caught, but not many big fish. Shallow bite has been best in 1-5 feet of water with spinnerbaits, chatterbaits and wacky worms. Few fish showed up deeper in 8-14 feet of water hitting shallow running crankbait and Texas rigs. Crappie are fair in shallow water, with a few fish starting to show up on docks and shallow brush piles. The creeks are stained too muddy. Report by Stephen Johnston, Johnston Fishing.
